Two months on and still no sign of Joshlin Smith

Joshlin Smith disappeared two months ago and the search for her has been widened to international shores

The 19th of Aprll marked exactly two months since six-year-old Joshlin Smith was last seen alive after her mother Kelly Smith claimed she left the child in the care of her boyfriend.

Recently reports surfaced that a woman who claimed to have been in Pollsmoor Prison with Kelly alleged that the mother told her where the child is.

UPDATE

Police Minister Bheki Cele also said a ship in Europe was searched for two and half days for missing Joshlin whose search has reached international shores.

The Saldanha Bay girl has been missing since February and multiple attempts, including a hefty ransom, have failed to bring her back dead or alive.

Cele says it's sad that there are people who are arrested for Joslin Smith's disappearance but the same people, including the mother, don't seem to be pointing the police in the right direction.Cele said they have cast their net internationally trying to find Joslin.

"It's a sad story that we can't find this child, however, we are not sleeping as the SAPS.About two weeks ago, we joined forces with our international sister organisation (Interpol) as well as other agencies to verify information that the kid might have been put in one of the vessels. A week ago a ship in a city in Europe was searched for two and half days trying to see if Joshlin was not there. We are also trying to find other cities where the ship might have docked so we can also search there, we are looking all over for her."

COURT CASE

Cele said they still believe and are thankful for the people of Saldanha Bay for their efforts in the ongoing search.

"We wish that politics should stay away in the issue of Joshlin and all of us work together in trying to find the child," he said, presumably because Patriotic Alliance party leader Gayton McKenzie has said he is offering a million Rand reward for anyone who has lucrative information.

The trio, Joshlin's mother, her close friend and latest suspect, as well as her boyfriend will return to the Vredenburg Magistrate's Court on 13 May on charges of human trafficking and kidnapping.

The latest suspect Lourentia 'Renze' Lombaard allegedly made a confession to the police about the minor's disappearance.

National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) regional spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said that the details of the confession would only be revealed at a later stage.

"That will come out in court. It would be wrong for me to divulge how she is linked to the case. The details of what happened and the merits will come out at a later stage, and the earliest will be if one of them applies for bail."
