Two people have been killed and six others rushed to hospital after ten men stormed into a tavern in Malamulele, Limpopo and shot randomly at patrons. It is alleged that the unknown men did not say a word when they entered the tavern.
SUSPECTS IN TWO BAKKIES
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said, "Six of the victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Several cartridges were fired from a pistol were found scattered on the scene of the crime. It is further suggested that the suspects left the scene in two double-cab vehicles." Ledwaba said the motive for the shooting is still unknown.
INVESTIGATE THOROUGHLY
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered a high-level investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting. "This kind of senseless killing must be condemned and I have tasked the members to hunt down the suspects and arrest them. I further call upon the community to come forward with information that can help police, "said Liutentenat General Hadebe.
TAVERN SHOOTINGS
Last year, Mzansi was rocked by random tavern shootings that left more than 20 people dead in one weekend. On 9 July 2022, 15 people were gunned down in a Soweto tavern, on the same night 12 people were shot and four died at the Sweetwaters in Pietermaritzburg. In the same weekend, six people were shot and two killed at a tavern in Katlehong, East Rand. In June 2022, 21 young people died at Enyobeni Tavern in East London, Eastern Cape. The parents of the youngsters were told that methanol, an alcoholic substance commonly found in cleaning products was detected in the bodies of the deceased.
