A woman was shot and killed by a stray bullet while waiting for her boyfriend. The incident took place when thugs started shooting randomly at people after robbing a cash van in Isiphingo Town in the South of Durban in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) yesterday.

CASH VAN HEIST

It is alleged that the thugs who had just robbed the cash van started shooting randomly in the small town. The woman was hit by the bullet and was certified dead on the scene. The criminals are alleged to have robbed cash van and disposed it in Umlazi township, where they were found hiding by the police.

THE SHOOTOUT

KZN spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "Two suspected cash in transit robbers were shot and fatally wounded when they started a shootout with police at U Section in Umlazi on Wednesday night. The eThekwini District Tracking Team, together with members of the Hawks were investigating a cross pavement cash in transit robbery where a cash in transit security guard was accosted by at least three suspects who robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money and his service firearm when he walking out of a store in Isipingo, where he had just collected the money," Netshiunda said. He added that before fleeing from the scene, the suspects fired shots randomly and a woman was shot and injured. "Swift investigations by the police led the tracking team to a house in Umlazi where two suspects were cornered inside the house. The suspects opened fire at the police, sparking a shootout. Two suspects were fatally wounded during the shootout and two firearms were found in their possession. No police officer was injured during the shootout.Two other suspects evaded arrest and a manhunt for them is underway," said Netshiunda.
