Turning in his grave!

Senzo Meyiwa must be turning in his grave as his murder trial started all over today

The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumed today at the Pretoria High Court with Kelly Khumalo's sister Zandi Khumalo taking the stand as the first witness.

Zandi was the last witness on the stand before Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela was suspended and the trial had to start all over. The Meyiwa murder trial kicked off with the state prosecutor George Baloyi reminding the accused of their charges.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sthemba Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Ncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Ntuli face a range of charges, including premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of an illegal firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

ACCORDING TO ZANDI

Zandi gave her version of events of what transpired the night the Bafana Bafana goalie was murdered at her home in Vosloorus. She highlighted how she met Senzo through her sister Kelly. She added, "Kelly told me about him after they had gone on about two dates. She told me that she met him through Lucia Mthiyane. Kelly is my older sister.Kelly told me after a few dates that she was interested in Senzo as much as he was interested in her. They had a beautiful relationship, they followed each other everywhere." On the day Senzo died, Zandi explained that she, along with her sister, Senzo and two of Senzo friends, Mthokozisi and Tumelo, had had lunch at her mother's home in Vosloorus when her boyfriend at the time Longwe Twala joined them before the intruders came. But court adjourned after Zandi explained how she sat at the back with Mthokozisi and Tumelo while Kelly was driving Meyiwa to hospital after he had allegedly been shot by an intruder. She said a small towel was used to put pressure on the bullet wound.

Baloyi said the state has reason to believe that Meyiwa's murder was planned and premeditated.

"The state will assert that the murder was planned and premeditated. The death of Meyiwa was caused by accused after an aggravated robbery. The murder was committed in the furtherance of a common purpose."

The Judge presiding over the matter Ratha Mokgoatlheng told the accused that the court could come to a different conclusion when it comes to the charges they are currently facing. He added that if the court is convinced it may deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of life. All five accused pleaded not guilty to charges tabled against them.
