A 27- year old man from Limpopo has been arrested for the alleged murder of his mother (59), sister (29), and 10-year-old nephew. The deceased were identified as Johanna Seanego(mother), Matome Seanego (sister), and Tebogo Mashilo Seanego(nephew). The shocking incident happened on Monday at Breda village in Gilead outside Mokopane.

SUFFERING FROM MENTAL ILLNESS

According to a family member who did not want to be named, the suspect suffered a mental breakdown earlier this year and was forced to leave his job in Gauteng. "He had a good job at one of the biggest dairy companies in Johannesburg but his mother was called to come to fetch him as he was acting strange and violent. Things had not been easy for his mother since he came back home, he would break things in the house. he would be okay and happy on some days and on others he was violent and threatening to kill everyone," a family member said. He added that the suspect, his mother, sister, and nephew had visited his maternal grandmother last week and they were forced to return to their home as he also became violent and even went missing for hours. "They came back on Sunday only for him to kill them a day later, we are devastated as a family. We really didn't expect things to turn out this way," he added. The relative also told ZiMoja that the scene was horrific as the victims tried to run for their lives. "The bodies were lying around their yard and the gate, it was horrible," he said.

MOTIVE FOR THE MURDERS UNKNOWN

SAPS Limpopo spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police responded to a complaint at about 11 am on Monday after community members alerted them about a domestic violence incident taking place at a nearby house. "In that house, an elderly son had allegedly hacked his own mother with an axe, then went after his sister and nephew. Upon arrival at the scene, the three victims were certified dead by the paramedics, whereas the suspect was arrested shortly near his home, "said Ledwaba. Ledwaba said the police have opened three counts of murder. Ledwaba said the motive for this merciless killing is still unknown at this stage. "We are extremely appalled by the incident and the atrocious manner in which the family members were killed allegedly by their own relative. We commend the Police for arresting the suspect who must face the consequences of his alleged horrendous actions. Members of the community are advised to seek professional help when faced with domestic challenges, " said Lieutenant General Hadebe. The suspect is expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 12 July 2023 facing three counts of murder.
