The female amapiano deejay duo phenomenon is fast growing in South Africa, with the likes of TxC, Mack Twin DJs and most recently 2D (2 Disruptive). There is a new group in town as actressThuli Phongolo has partnered up with Amadada dancer and Slenda The Dancing DJ to make up 2Faced.
THEIR THEORY
The duo recently announced their collaboration, saying the idea is inspired by the Janus Concept. The duo says, "In ancient Roman mythology, Janus, the god of beginnings and transitions, gazed in two opposite directions, symbolising the duality of time, doorways, and endings. Just as Janus presided over the ebb and flow of conflict, 2Faced brings together two distinct musical genres, Amapiano and Gqom, in a harmonious fusion," the duo wrote in a statement.
A UNIT
Thuli is a former Generations: The Legacy actress turned amapiano DJ, and Slenda The Dancing DJ is a KwaZulu Natal dancer turned Gqom DJ. "Together, they bridge the gap between two powerful musical worlds, seamlessly blending the beats and rhythms of Amapiano with the raw energy of Gqom," their statement reads. The two are set to merge their chosen genres to create a mesmerising musical fusion.
