Another suspected hijacked building in Marshalltown in the Johannesburg CBD caught fire on Friday morning. This after one of the shacks erected inside the three-storey building caught fire. EVERYONE EVACUATED

Emergency Management Services spokesperson Xoli Khumalo confirmed that scores of people were evacuated from a burning building in Joburg after a fire broke out in the morning. Khumalo said the building is a few metres away from Usindiso building, that was gutted down by fire which claimed the lives of over 70 people, leaving 61 people injured. Joburg Safety MMC, Mgcini Mtshwaku said Emergency Management Services were efficient in containing the fire. "We are actually happy that EMS responded on time and are on high alert. There will be an investigation in terms of what really happened," Mtshwaku said.

BUILDING COLLAPSES

Meanwhile, in Orange Farm, a man in his thirties has died after a building collapsed on him while he was allegedly stripping it with a friend. It is believed that the two guys were stripping the abandoned building for scrap. EMS spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi said the deceased's friend was treated for injuries and rushed to the hospital by paramedics. "It looks like they were trying to remove building materials when it collapsed on them. We are urging residents to stay away from these abandoned buildings to prevent incidents like this one," said Mulaudzi.
