Just when he thought he was free from the death threats he received earlier this year, rapper Mthembeni "Emtee" Ndevu is back to square one. He is fearing for his life after receiving more blood-curdling messages on his phone from an unknown person. This time, the person is giving dates for his death.

DEATH THREATS

On 9 September, Emtee will be hosting his Emtee & Friends concert at Zone 6 in Soweto. Here, he says is where the person is threatening to kill him. "They say they are going to kill me at the show," he says. Earlier this year, Emtee opened up to ZiMoja about receiving threats a few days after rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes was gunned down outside a Durban restaurant on Florida Road on the evening of 10 February. AKA was shot and killed outside a restaurant while with friends. Two men walked across the road and fired gunshots at him killing the rapper and former manager Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane. Emtee says the person unknown to him has been saying he is next after DJ Sumbody.

"Somebody is trying to extort money that I don't have from me," he says adding, "I'm next after DJ Sumbody." Emtee says he doesn't owe anyone money and doesn't know anyone who would want him dead. "I don't talk about it because people are sure that I'm some retard. Nobody will believe me until I'm dead," he says. "I don't owe anyone money, I'm not a gangster, and I don't gamble." Emtee adds that this is not the first time he is gotten threats. "I first deleted the messages and blocked the number, and they continued sending messages with a different number. I am scared, but I know I didn't do anything about it. The person wants R25 million, where do I get that kind of money?" Emtee asks adding that the person claims he funded his career. "I asked him when he gave me cash. I've never held that amount of money in my life suddenly I owe him. Never met him, don't know him. So, I really need security. I'm not a troublesome person. I'm cool with everyone Cassper Nyovest himself."

LIVING IN FEAR

Emtee is not the first artist to fear for his life. Cassper Nyovest opened up to ZiMoja about having to increase his security following DJ Sumbody's death. "It's not safe man. I have been ignorant for a very long time and DJ Sumbody's death made me realise that we are not safe," he said at the time."I need to remember who I am; I am Cassper Nyovest. I am not just some normal guy who can just walk around freely. I would love to live like that, walk around the streets, and not be recognised, but I am not that guy. Someone made me realise that this is not the way to go and Sumbody's death made me aware that, I need to be safe and remember who I am. We spend a lot of money on stupid things, so why not invest in security and knowing that wherever I move, I am a bit safer and everything is controlled."
