A trial date has been set for African National Congress member and MP Sibusiso Kula, who is accused of killing his wife Jennifer Mohlomi in November 2022. Kula will stand trial at the High Court of South Africa, North West Division, sitting at the Klerksdorp Regional Court from 13-17 May 2024.

During the pre-trial, the state and the defence attorney confirmed their readiness to proceed with the trial as all the necessary documents had been provided to the attorney of the accused. Kula, is currently out on R50 000 bail granted by the High Court of South Africa in the North West Division following his appeal at the Orkney Magistrates' Court.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Henry Mamothame said that after he was granted bail, Kula was ordered to surrender passports and report twice daily at the nearest police station. "He was also asked to provide the investigating officer with his work itinerary, report to the Investigating officer if he must move outside his residential jurisdiction and have no direct or indirect contact with his children. His bid to have the case struck off the roll was previously rejected by the court. Police reports reveal that Kula's wife, Jennifer Mohlomi, was found murdered on 27 November 2022, in what was made to look like a robbery gone wrong. Mamothame said: "Mohlomi was found with a stab wound on her back, but the object that was used for her alleged murder has not been recovered. The matter was reported by the medical facility where she was allegedly transported to by the accused to receive medical attention," he said. Kula told the police at the time that he was not present at his home when the incident occurred. Following thorough investigations by the police, he was linked to the alleged murder and was arrested on 20 January last year and charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice, contravention of the Domestic Violence Act, making false statements and affidavits and conspiracy with any other person to aid or procure the commission of murder."
