All she ever wanted was to go back to school, complete her matric and realise her dream of becoming a teacher. But Sinenhlanhla Mbokazi's dream will never become true and she will never know if she passed her matric. The mother of two was murdered allegedly by the father of her two children Ndumi Khumalo, four days before receiving her grade 12 results. Ndumi was also found dead in a suspected suicide.
SHE WAS EXCITED ABOUT BEING IN MATRIC
Sinenhlanhla's mother Baphikile Mbokazi says it is still hard to believe that her daughter is no more. Mbokazi told ZiMoja that Sinenhlanhla wanted to become the teacher so much that she went back to school after being a drop out for years. "I was heartbroken when she fell pregnant with the first child, it became even worse when she got pregnant with the second child. I was happy when she picked herself and went back to school at the age of 22 and was in matric at the age of 25. All she wanted was to go study in tertiary and become a teacher so that she could be able to take care of us," Mbokazi said. "That man, who killed her, finished me. I had high hopes with my daughter," she said, adding that her daughter was nervous about her results but was confident she passed. "Now she will never know if she passed her matric," said Mbokazi.
HE FETCHED HER FROM HER MOTHER'S HOUSE UNDER FALSE PRETENCE
Mbokazi said that her daughter's killer came to their house on Sunday and asked her to come with her so that they could go and buy the kids school uniform. "He promised that they would buy the kids uniform on Monday and bring them for the kids to fit. For some reason on that day, I was not comfortable with them going with the kids. Maybe he would have killed them as well. Ndumi has killed me, why didn't he take his own life alone and leave my daughter alone to raise his kids? How will I explain to the kids that their father killed their mother? I'm hurting and I don't know how I will explain to them that they will never ever see their mother again," she said.
THE MURDER
Ndumi's uncle Dumisani Mkhwanazi said that they are still trying to figure out on what could have pushed his nephew to commit such a crime. "I was woken up by my sister on Monday, who was crying hysterically, after she discovered Ndumi and Sinenhlanhla's bodies. We never thought that they were going to end up dead after we saw them on Sunday being lovey dovey and cosy. They did not show any signs of not getting along." Mkhwanazi told ZiMoja that Ndumi's mother discovered the bodies when she went to their room, which is outside the main house, to wake Ndumi up as he had to go to work.
"When my sister noticed that he didn't come to the kitchen to fetch his lunchbox, she immediately went to his room. She knocked so many times trying to wake them but there was no answer. She decided to have a look through the window and saw my nephew hanging from the roof. I came running and broke down the door and found Sinenhlanhla's badly injured body on the floor. It looked like she had been strangled," he said. KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "KwaMbonambi police are investigating a case of murder and inquest after a 25-year-old woman was found dead with stab wounds and a 31-year-old man was found hanging. It is alleged that the 31-year-old fatally stabbed his girlfriend before taking his own life. The incident occurred at Embabe Reserve on 15 January 2024," he said.
