Killed for not being a woman

Clement Hadebe was allegedly murdered for being gay

He went out with his friends last week Sunday and hooked up with a man who later took him home. The next day, Clement Hadebe (29) who is originally from Madadeni in Newcastle in KwaZulu Natal was found shot nine times at a BnB in Johannesburg in the early hours of Monday.

SHOT NINE TIMES

It is alleged that Hadebe met his alleged killer at the popular place KwaMai Mai Market downtown Johannesburg, who bought him alcohol. Hadebe's friend, who asked not to be named, told ZiMoja the guy and his two friends joined them at their table. "They offered to buy us drinks. We couldn't say no to free booze," the friend said. He said when one of the men showed interests in Hadebe, he advised him to tell the guy that he was gay. "I could tell that the guy is straight, but Hadebe just played along. When he asked Hadebe to go home with him, I again called him to the side and begged him to reveal his sexuality, but he brushed me off," the friend said. Another friend told ZiMoja that he left with the men and Hadebe in their car, but on their way to the hostel in Jules, where the men stay, he was ordered to jump off the car as they only wanted to be with Hadebe again. According to the friend, Hadebe was found shot nine times the next day, allegedly by the man who had left with him the night before.

KILLED FOR NOT BEING A WOMAN

Another friend told ZiMoja that they believe that the man killed Hadebe after he realised that he was gay. "The guy spent a lot of money on us, and he was sure that he took a woman home. He even booked a room at a bed and breakfast place," added We thought that he was straight," the friend said. "But that did not give him the right to kill. He could have just let him go. What he did is horrible. I pray that he rots in jail for this horrific crime. Hadebe was a lovely person who loved life; he did not deserve this," said the friend. Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said the police were investigating the murder. "A murder docket is being investigated after a man was shot and killed on Monday," she said.
