Actor Sipho Ndlovu has been arrested on assault charges, soon after his girlfriend was granted bail today. Sipho and his girlfriend, Thandeka Mhlanga, opened criminal cases against each other after a scuffle they had over the weekend.

CHARGES

Thandeka alleges Sipho assaulted her after she caught him with another woman, while Sipho also claims assault, crimen injuria and defamation of character. She was arrested yesterday by the Douglasdale police at her workplace in Fourways, Johannesburg, and charged. She appeared at the Randburg Magistrate's Court today and was granted R1 000 bail. According to a source, shortly after being released on bail, Thandeka opened a countercharge against the actor.

ACTOR ARRESTED

The news of Sipho's arrest was confirmed by his manager, Alexis Tshangana. "I can confirm that Sipho has been arrested. This bitter ex-girlfriend opened a countercharge against him," she said. Thandeka's sister, Nonkululeko Mhlanga, told ZiMoja that the South African justice system was being unfair towards her and that it favoured prominent people with money. "My sister opened her case in Cosmo City because of the jurisdiction of the estate where Sipho stays. They kept quiet and pretended that they were going to send her the case number, which was going to force them to make an arrest. It was only this morning that they told my sister that they were sorry that they did not help her with the assault charges. They then referred her to Douglasdale Police Station, where we opened a countercharge against him. We want him to spend the weekend in jail," she said. Thandeka's case was postponed to 21 August for further investigation. During her court appearance, Sipho was present in court.
