Organisers ran out of the venue as guests started trickling into The Galleria in Sandton for the second annual South African Amapiano Awards. Organisers Qhubani "DJ Qness" Ndlovu and business partner Pleasure Adams left the venue without explaining why the awards had been cancelled for the third time.
NON-PAYMENT
Guests filled up the entryway in tuxedos and ball gowns dressed according to the Black-Tie theme but were turned back by security. Posted at the door of the venue is a sign saying, "Amapiano Awards cancelled due to non-payment from organisers". The security guard said he was instructed not to allow any guests into the venue. "Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone in," security told ZiMoja.
CANCELLED!
The organisers have since released a statement saying the event was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. "Dear Amapiano Lover, We regret to inform you that the second annual Amapiano Awards have been cancelled. Circumstances beyond our control have led us to make this extremely difficult decision. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. We value the support and enthusiasm you have shown for the South African Amapiano Awards, and we remain dedicated to delivering a memorable experience in the future."
TROUBLES
This is not the first time, the awards are having mishaps. They first announced the return of the awards which were meant to take place at Sun Arena, on the 2 April 2023. The awards, however, were halted due to a lack of ticket sales and division in the organisation's camp. It seems the drama is far from over, as the awards have been halted again due to another ownership dispute. An insider revealed to ZiMoja that Arthur Mafokate had bought the rights to the awards from the main founder DJ Qness, for almost a million Rands, without informing sponsors and colleagues.
