The Jackie Phamotse and Kumalo's case of crimen injuria, defamation, and contempt of court seems to be dragging to the earth's end. In September, the Randburg Magistrates Court found controversial author Jackie Phamotse guilty after a five-year legal battle with media moguls Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo. Her sentencing was set for 24 October, but it was postponed to 14 November. A date is yet to be set for the sentencing.

GRANTED

While the big wait, Connect TV owner, former beauty queen, and media mogul, Basetsana had been granted an interim protection order for another year, while awaiting Jackie's sentencing to proceed. This is a renewal of the protection order that Basetsana was granted in 2018 for alleged harassment. This is in order for Jackie to keep the Kumalo's out of their mouth and to stay far from them until the sentencing

THE SENTENCING

After the postponement of her sentencing a close friend to the Kumalo family said, Jackie's Legal Aid representative, Mr. M Mathonsi was "playing delay tactics to avoid jail time. She's avoiding jail time. Each one of the offenses carries a minimum sentence of a year or two," said the friend. "They are trying to get her to do community service or get a fine and not go to prison." Five years ago, the Kumalo's opened a case of defamation and crimen injuria against Jackie after she tweeted a subliminal tweet claiming there was a video depicting the complainant, Romeo Kumalo, engaging in sexual activity with another man. She also tweeted. This she failed to prove in court, which led to her being found guilty.
