The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in KwaZulu-Natal has denied receiving a letter from their national leadership nullifying results from their recent elective conference that was held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) early this month. The ANCWL KZN said it was aware of a letter circulating on social media which is purportedly written by ANCWL Secretary-General Nokuthula Nqala but said that it never reached them.
CONCERNS RAISED
During the elective conference between 4 and 7 August, Nonhlanhla Khoza, was elected as the new provincial chairperson defeating Bongi Sithole-Moloi. Soon after the conference, former eThekwini region coordinator Nompumelelo Mabaso wrote to the ANC complaining about the unfairness of the recent elective conference. Mabaso complained that there were 53 votes that were unaccounted for and asked that the results or the outcomes of the conference be nullified.
Responding to the complaint that was laid by Mabaso, the Women’s League national secretary-general Nokuthula Nqaba accepted her complaints as valid which led to the league nullifying the outcomes of the conference and dissolving the recently elected leadership.
Provincial secretary-general Zamanguni Sokhabase said that the said letter has not been officially communicated to the elected provincial executive committee (PEC) but somehow found its way to social media platforms. The league in KZN further said that there has been no formal communication from the national ANCWL regarding the alleged nullification of conference outcomes.
NULLIFICATION LETTER
In the letter addressed to the newly elected PEC members, Nqala said that the ANCWL National Executive Committee convened a Special National Executive Committee meeting last week Friday and resolved to nullify the 6th provincial conference. "As such, the ANCWL in KwaZulu-Natal cannot sanction any political organisational, or constitutional activities including regional conferences, regional general councils and regional assemblies. The officials of the NEC will be coming to KZN to meet with the officials of the ANC and structures of the ANCWL this coming week," the letter read.
THEY WILL APPEAL THE DECISION
Sokhabase also said that should the letter circulating on social media be found to be accurate, the elected provincial PEC will appeal the decision. " The PEC is committed to pursuing due processes as outlined in the party’s constitution which includes initiating an appeal with the ANC NEC. Pending the reception of a proper communique, the elected ANCWL PEC will continue its daily operations as mandated by the conference. The PEC is steadfast in acknowledging the importance of adhering to established party procedures and maintaining an unwavering commitment to the movement’s principles," Sokhabase said.
