A teenage girl has been arrested after she allegedly stabbed her father to death after he allegedly assaulted her mother. The 19-year-old was arrested by Sekgosese police on Wednesday 29 November 2023 at Rooerfontein village, outside Giyani in Limpopo.

Limpopo SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said in a statement that they received a call about a family fighting on Wednesday night from a neighbour. Mashaba said the deceased allegedly had a heated argument with his wife and assaulted her. When the daughter found out that her mother was assaulted, she went out to ask for help from neighbours. "The daughter called out community members to come and assist in stopping the fight between her parents," Mashaba said.

However, according to Mashaba, the deceased suddenly attacked his daughter with a knife, but she managed to get the knife from the deceased and stabbed him. "Upon arrival of the police at the crime scene, they discovered a lifeless body of a male person having stab wounds on his back and the right hand," said Mashaba. He added that the deceased was identified by his wife as Edward Frank Ralekgokgo aged 60 years. He said the deceased was declared dead on the scene of the crime by the paramedics. "The motive behind the incident is not yet known but domestic violence cannot be ruled out. The suspect is expected to appear before Giyani Magistrates/ Court."
