The Westonaria Magistrates Court has sentenced 27-year-old Bohlale Makhosane to life imprisonment on six counts of rape, he was further sentenced to 18 months? imprisonment for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. 

The NPA's Phindi Mjonondwane said on 06 September 2021, near Bekkersdal the victim went to a tavern called R5 tavern with her boyfriend. She said the accused worked as a security guard stationed at the gate at the tavern when the incident occurred. "At midnight when the tavern was closing, the accused suggested that the couple join him at his place. The party continued at the accused place of residence until the couple decided that it was time to leave. The accused accompanied them and along the way, an argument ensued between the accused and the victim's boyfriend," Mjonondwane said, adding that the accused stabbed the boyfriend with a knife, and he fell to the ground.

She said the accused saw an opportunity and took advantage because the boyfriend was injured and proceeded to drag the victim back to his house and he raped her. "The accused held the victim hostage overnight and continued to rape her several times. When the accused released the victim, she went to the police station, and the police accompanied the victim to the accused's place where she pointed him out. The accused pleaded not guilty and told the court that there was consensual sexual intercourse between him and the victim." Mjonondwane said in arguing for a harsh sentence State Advocate Moss Malahlela, put to the court that the ordeal done by the accused is very serious and it is very prevalent not only in our jurisdiction but throughout the country. "The ordeal left the victim traumatised, in that she had to relocate back to Zimbabwe and the accused showed no sign of remorse. The Advocate further put forward that the accused had an intention to stab the victim's boyfriend to remove him from the picture so that he could sexually violate the victim.
