Superfan Mama Joy Chauke receives her flowers while alive

She has been a super football fan for over two decades. Her support for local teams has seen her become top team Orlando Pirates, and now recently Royal AM. Joy Chauke fondly known as Mama Joy recently celebrated being awarded Sports Fan of the Year at the 2023 Momentum GSports Awards for her immense support of the sport.

 

DESERVING

 

Held at Johannesburg's Wanderers Club, the award ceremony celebrated the women who made strides in the world of SA sport and internationally. Mama Joy is currently living her best life in Paris, supporting the Springboks at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Her best friend, Dineo Mokwena, accepted the award on her behalf. "She truly deserved to win. She has dedicated her life to sport and she is a legend," the friend said. 

 

OTHER WINNERS

 

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini won the Momentum Athlete of the Year. WAFCON Champions, Banyana Banyana won Team of the Year for the second year in a row. Coach Desiree Ellis, received the Coach of the Year Award. Kgothatso Montjane became the most celebrated athlete on the Momentum Gsport stage after winning her first Grand Slam title at the French Open in the wheelchair doubles category.
