Moroka Swallows has been on a firing spree recently, letting go of 22 players who were allegedly disgruntled about low wages at one go. The 22 players who were let go protested which resulted in the club missing two Premier Soccer League matches in December against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. Komphela complained about poor communication between the team, himself and manager Elasto Kapowezha. The veteran footballer has since resigned from the club. He announced his exit from Moroka Swallows only seven months after his appointment as head coach.
RESIGNATION
His departure from the Dube Birds came as no surprise, however, the team said his exit was a mutual separation. "This comes after several discussions between both parties, where it was ultimately agreed that it would be in the best interest of both the club and coach Steve to separate at this stage. There remains a mutual respect between both parties and the decision to separate is one both parties have welcomed. The club wishes coach Steve all the best in his future endeavours, and we are grateful for the contributions he has made to the club," the team's management said.
GOOD-BYE
Komphela thanked the team and management for their professionalism and perseverance. "You portrayed selfless resilience, irrespective of circumstances," he said. "There were moments where none of us would know what more to say to you but you always carried yourselves with poise, pride, dignity, and amazing respect," he added. "I shall always respect and remember you. The sad and painful uncertainty comes to a decisive end." He asked that the same support he received be given to coaches, Musa Nyatama, Ditheko Mototo and Thela Ngobeni.
