It was a night of celebration as South Africans won big at the 2024 BET Awards, held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, USA, this weekend. Victoria Monet, Killer Mike, and Usher were among the international winners. 

South Africans put their best foot forward and came out on top. Tyla won the first award of the night, for best international act, and later scooped the award for best new artist. Limpopo singer Makhadzi walked off with the BET Viewers Choice after her stellar performance of the song Jump, featuring Gunna and Skillibeng. Makhadzi gave her traditional TshiVenda bow as a sign of being humbled by the massive recognition.

Usher, who was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards, was named the best male R&B/pop artist, while SZA, who was not in attendance, won the award for best female R&B/pop artist. Killer Mike received the Album of the Year, Monét scooped the BET Her Award and Video of the Year, and Regina King was named Best Actress.

Video Director of the Year: Cole Bennett (WINNER)

Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award: Tems, 'Me & U' (WINNER)

Viewer's Choice Award: Beyoncé, 'Texas Hold 'Em' (WINNER)

Best International Act: Tyla (Africa) (WINNER)
