Soshanguve space muffins sellers to remain behind bars

A third suspect handed himself over to the cops as he was linked to selling space cookies to learners

Three men, faced with 28 counts of murder and 19 other charges for selling muffins laced with a substance with a narcotic effect to children, will be back at the Soshanguve Magistrates? Court this week, on Wednesday, to apply for bail

It is alleged that Amukelani Nyulunga (19), Ofentse Maluleka (21) and Katlego Matlala (29) sold space muffins to Pulamadibogo primary school learners on Wednesday, 20 September 2023.

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR

The NPA ?s Lumka Mahanjana said as a result, the children started vomiting, experiencing stomach cramps and behaving strangely at school.

"The school principal then called the ambulance, taking the children to the clinic and transferring them to the hospital for further observation. Nyulunga and Maluleka were arrested on the same day of the incident and were remanded in custody,"she said, adding that a third suspect handed himself over to the police and was arrested on 26 September 2023, after evidence linked him to the offence.

RANDOM SEARCH OF VENDORS

The school?s school governing body regional chairperson Matlala Moeketsi pleaded with law enforcement to check if vendors aren?t engaging in anything suspicious that could harm learners.

"We are pleading with metro police to at least do what we call a random search of the vendors to make sure they are selling the right items to our learners because it is hard for us to regulate what is being sold outside school premises."
