She's been glowing and at her happiest and feeling blessed. Actress, personality and businesswoman Sophie Ndaba beams as she realises all she has overcome in life; from loss of income, ill health and her business taking a knock. The most recent occurrence is breaking her ankle after missing a step at home in the West Rand while trying on a dress. The bubbly Sophie is back in hospital to remove the screws on her foot and check the progress of her health.
RECOVERY
She was worried that she might not be able to walk again and was being wheeled around in a wheelchair. Months later, she recovered well and was using crutches to balance her foot. It has been six months of having to nurse the broken ankle, and Sophie said, she prays for a full recovery soon. "I have metal screws holding my ankle together,' she said. "I come from far, cement, crutches, wheelchair and now I am having the screws removed from my ankle. I am just grateful to be breathing and able to see another day. My foot will heal.' She's having the medical check, so she can be ready for her talk as a speaker at the Women's Empowerment and Sustainable Development Summit hosted at Radisson Blu hotel in Johannesburg in March. I need to be mobile and in good healthy spirits to share my life's journey and inspire others."
GRATEFUL
When she hurt her ankle, she woke up in the hospital not having realised what had happened. One minute she was walking and the next, she broke her ankle. "I was at home putting on a dress in front of the mirror and missed a step.' She's been limping for more than six months, and in and out of hospitals. But said the injury happened for a reason. "There's always a reason behind every accident or lesson,' she said. "Things really could have been worse. At least I learned to walk again.'
LIVING WITH DIABETES
This is a minor setback for Sophie who has experienced even worse health scares. She has opened up about living with diabetes. "I have been through it all. I have been living with diabetes for years and have managed it well. Yes, there are times when things get tough, but I manage my condition,' she said. "I've experienced blacking out because of low sugar level but I always make sure I eat at a certain time and always take care of myself.'
