Actress and TV producer Sonia Mbele is like a cat with nine lives. After Multichoice's decision to can the Real Housewives of Johannesburg franchise, the former Generations actress is now launching her own podcast. Mbele, who became known as Ntombi on the popular soapie Generations, will follow in the footsteps of other celebrities who are venturing into podcasting after the success story of McG, with McG Podcast & Chill ranking among the popular in the country.
NOT JUST ANY PODCAST
Mbele said hers will not just be another ordinary podcast. "We are not coming up with frivolous stories and topics. This will be empowering, and the name of the podcast is called Woza Nazo," she said. The entrepreneur said she is going to tackle all topics, no matter how uncomfortable.She told ZiMoja that the idea was inspired by her success after she hosted a podcast on streaming service Netflix. "People really like it and they were praising it. I thought, 'Why not try something like that'?' she said. Her guests will range from businesspeople to celebrities, as well as ordinary people. "It will cater for everyone. I am not limited to just celebrities. Just like our topics," she added.
WORKING ON BUSINESS OUTSIDE ENTERTAINMENT
Sonia had a brand called the Sonia Mbele Signature Collection with Pesso in
shops at two malls in Joburg, but the brand was closed in 2020 due to COVID-19. She's produced movies for Mzansi Magic, and she's on Netflix's Blood & Water as Lizbeth Molapo, and the latest season of Savage Beauty also on Netflix. Sonia is currently working on businesses outside the entertainment industry and believes in expanding her business. She continues to produce and is working on several TV shows that will hit our screens in the near future.
