Family of late Emzini Wezinsizwa creator fighting over house

Pixley Shabangu's family is at loggerheads

The son of the late Pexley Shabangu is crying foul. Njabulo Shabangu, one of his sons, said he is being deprived of his father's legacy. Shabangu, who passed away in 2020, created legendary dramas like Hlala Kwabafileyo, Deliwe, Khwakhala Nyonini Emzini Wezinsizwa, among others.

HE WAS RAISED BY HIS FATHER

Speaking to ZiMoja, Njabulo said ever since his father's passing, life has not been the same for the family. He said his mother, Thenjiwe, who only came back to their lives after their father's death, is making his life a living hell. Njabulo, who was raised by his late father, said he never had a relationship with his mother, whom he alleged left when he was only 18 months old. "I have been raised by my dad all my life. She only came back into our lives when my father died," said an irritated Njabulo. He said his mother and his elder brother, Nkululeko, have been "chowing" his father's monies without him and that they alleged that his father did not leave a will. "My father and I used to talk about everything. He told me about his will but after his death my mother and brother lied to me about the non existence of the will," he said.

SIDELINED

He alleged that after his father's death, his elder brother started buying new cars and did renovations while his mother was busy shopping and buying new things. He said: "I believe that they are both hiding the fact that my father left me a portion of money. I have been sidelined ever since my mother arrived in our home. She is in cahoots with my brother," Njabulo said. The 39-year-old Njabulo, who is now a sangoma, said he is not even allowed inside the main family house, which boasts 11 bedrooms. Njabulo, who has four kids to maintain, said his children are not even allowed at their late grandfather's house. "I get that my mother left me when I was young and we never shared a bond, but treating my kids like they are not family is rude. My father loved my kids and now they don't understand why their gogo doesn't want them," he said.

HE CAN'T PRACTICE

His indumba (sacred place) is inside the main house and since he is not allowed inside, he is unable to practice because he is told that his sangoma muthi is making the house smell. "I can't burn imphempo inside the house. I am told that it makes the house smell. I can't have people over for consultations. I am being kicked out of my own home," said Njabulo. When called, his mother, Thenjiwe, said she wouldn't dignify our article with a comment. "I am not going to discuss my family affairs in public or with the media ," she said before she hung up the phone. Njabulo's brother could not be reached for comment.
