Somizi shows businessman the middle finger

Somizi Mhlongo snapped an event he was paid for

Eastern Cape businessman Mabjessie Tyekana was hoping to have an all-star birthday party billed for March 1 and 2 at Absa Stadium in East London. Tyekana had invited popular artists like Big Zulu, Rethabile Khumalo, DJ Tira, Khuzani, Ntencane, and media personality Somizi Mhlongo, among a host of other celebrities, to grace his event.

NO MORE LOVE

At gigs, Somizi acts as an MC and performer. After Tyekana included him in a poster after they had agreed on the gig, the businessman and his team booked flights and accommodations for Somizi. The former Idol judge landed in East London but showed Tyekana the middle finger. "Instead of coming to my show, Somizi chose to go to another club. He even told his fans on his online platforms that they must come and support him there," said an irritated Tyekana in his Facebook live post today. He said he used to adore the controversial media personality, but that liking for him has gone out the window. "I used to respect Somizi. I used to respect him. But now I don't like him for what he did. Uyadelela, Uyadelela uSomizi (you are disrespectful). Now, it's time to respect local artists. Moshe Ndiki did well. He was part of the event," said Tyekana.

Addressing a part of his 35,000 Facebook followers, Tyekana said Somizi was taking advantage of people from the Eastern Cape by being a no-show at his two-day gig. He said he was not going to give up or keep quiet when artists outside the Eastern Cape take them for granted. He then threatened Somizi: "Me and Somizi should not meet. Even at a supermarket because I want my money. I'm not giving up on my money. I still want my money," he said.

SOMIZI FIRED BACK

Somizi admitted that Tyekana paid him for the gig and the flights. But Somizi fired back at Tyekana and said his event was a flop. He added that he had never been exposed to that level of incompetence and unprofessionalism. "First, I had to wait for them to pick me up from the airport. After 20 minutes, I eventually took an Uber to the hotel with my managers. When we checked in, we realised that our accommodation was not paid for; we were handed speed points to pay for the hotel,' Somizi said. He claimed that they waited at the hotel, and they were later told to perform at 10 pm, even though he was told the gig would end at 6 pm. He said when he arrived at the event, he was not impressed with the standards."That stage looked like a table, and even the crowd was not impressed with the event. He added that all the artists who were at Tyekana's event were unhappy. "It was the most disorganised event I've been to. I went on stage and introduced one artist and left. That event was a flop," said Somizi.
