She’s known for slaying, parties, and Brazilan Butt Lifts. Influencer and reality TV star, Eva Modika now adds Afrohouse, Electro, and Afrotech DJ to her title. The controversial star tells ZiMoja that she started her DJ lessons many years ago mastering the craft behind the scenes but she is now ready to share the hard work.

BEHIND THE DECKS

She’s made headlines in the past for catfights and opened up about being one of the first women to popularise BBL in South Africa. She is taking her name to make an honest living as a DJ. "I’ve worked hard for the name and it makes sense to keep it as my DJ name," she says. Eva joins the long list of female DJs on the rise, such as Cyan Boujee, TxC, Uncle Waffles, and many others. "I am bringing art, uniqueness, and ‘Womandla’ into the business, I’m going to empower young females to show them that you can also do it, the sky is the limit," she says. "I know everyone is interested and wants to know what genre I will be playing right? I’ve decided to go the different route, everyone is on the Amapiano wagon. I like to be different, so I’ve opted for Afrohouse, Electro, and Afrotech." Eva has taken a few years to learn DJing behind the scenes. "it’s taken years of practice. I always contemplated going public, but I was scared to take the leap of faith. Looking at how female DJs are always criticised every day. I wanted to take my time, and practice until I am ready."

MUSIC TO MY EARS

Her first booking was at the Durban July but at the Rich Durban marquee, but she had to turn the booking down as she was travelling to Portugal on holiday. "But more bookings are coming, this is just the beginning." Eva says she has been labelled as just a pretty face or ‘slay queen’ but she wants to share her passion for music. "I love music, it speaks to my soul," she says. Eva says she is inspired by people like Black Coffee. "He is my inspiration. I look at him having won a Grammy as a black South African deejay and I see it possible for me as well."
