BAIL DENIED

Manku was denied bail yesterday after he appeared at the Magatle Magistrates Court. Manku, who is also a cop, told the court previously that he ordered a hit on his mother-in-law Letty Maphuthuma (70) on 4 May 2021 but the hitman also killed his wife Gladys Manku (45) as they feared she will call the community after witnessing her mother being murdered. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said in an affidavit, Manku said he wanted to be released on bail to tender his in resignation as a police officer at Magatle Police Station.

GIRLFRIEND WALKS FREE

Dzangi said that on the day of the incident, the 70-year-old mother and her 45-year-old daughter were shot dead by unknown suspects while fetching water at a local tap. "At the time, Amanda's grandmother was also in company of her son who was injured during the shooting and survived. After the murders, the police started with the investigations that identified the suspects and subsequent arrests were affected. Mashaba further said that the firearms confiscated during the arrests will be subjected to a ballistic test. The motor vehicle which was used to commit the crimes and a phone belonging to Amanda's mother were also seized," said Dzangi. Charges against his girlfriend, police sergeant Ngubo were withdrawn last week, while one of the men who was allegedly hired to carry out the murder abandoned his bail application.
