A popular actor has been arrested for allegedly swindling an investor R200 000 and promising him great returns in his bitcoin company. The actor cannot be named until he appears in the Polokwane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
SWINDLED
The actor's victim, who spoke to ZIMoja, said the actor and his business partner promised him great monthly returns if he invested the money with his company. The man said that he resigned from his job and used his pension fund to invest in the scheme in 2020. After losing the money, the victim said his marriage suffered financial problems and his wife blamed him as she was against him leaving his job in the first place. "I made a bad decision to invest in their business not knowing that that they were scamming me. The sad part is that my wife took my kids and left me. I'm now a divorcee because the actor promised me heaven and earth. He promised that I would make enough money to support my family. Did I make more money? I never did, I have found myself jobless, wifeless and penniless. I am depressed because of this," the man from Polokwane in Limpopo said.
JUSTICE AT LAST
The victim said that he has for years tried to get his money from the actor to no avail. He opened a case in the past and the matter was thrown out of court last year, but he said he did not give up and also involved the Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, who confirmed in January that he knew about the matter. Hadebe said at the time that the matter was not a simple one but that it was receiving attention it needed. After the actor's arrest, the victim said he was happy that finally justice will prevail. "I have been saying that all I want is my back and for those responsible to go to jail because they scammed me. I hope this will be a lesson to all the scammers" he said. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said it was against the SAPS policy to discuss any individual in their custody before actual court appearance.
