The case against Moja Love TV presenter Xolani Maphanga (39) and his bodyguard Bongani Mkhabela (33), who is the owner of Tshenolo Private Investigations, is set to be moved from the magistrates' court to the regional court. The pair appeared briefly at the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court today where the matter was postponed.
PROGRESS IN CASE
They are facing three counts of attempted murder and one of trespassing following an incident that occurred when they were filming an episode of the drug busting show, Sizok'thola. The court heard that the state has completed its investigations, and therefore, the matter has been transferred to the regional court. The docket has to be disclosed to the defence and then they will be able to evaluate the facts around what was said by those who corroborate the evidence that the state has brought forward.
BAIL CONDITIONS STAND
The accused have been ordered by the magistrate to abide by their bail conditions. In April, Maphanga and Mkhabela were granted R5 000 bail each and were ordered not to speak to witnesses directly or indirectly and to report to the nearest police station once a week. Maphanga and his crew allegedly assaulted three people in Soshanguve while filming Sizok'thola in March. A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened at Soshanguve Police Station after the alleged assault.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana confirmed that on March 14, the duo, along with other Moja Love crew members, allegedly went to the complainant's house in Soshanguve looking for drugs they claimed she was selling. "When they could not find the drugs, it is alleged the two started to assault a woman who is a complainant in the matter with a sjambok and choked her and suffocated her brother. Three days after the incident, the woman reported the matter to the police," said Mahanjana. The two will be back in court on August 14.
