Following the claims that were made by award winning artist Makhadzi, another Open Mic artist has come out to claim that she hasn't benefitted in all the songs sh released under the stable.
Singer Paige has come out she has not been paid a penny for her songs. "From millions of streams, I have never received any benefit or a penny. I remember signing a contract which was three pages. Soon after signing the contract, I requested a copy and I was promised to get one in no time when I got home in 2021," the statement reads. Paige claims that after that the copy was never sent to her as promised.
"Throughout the year of 2021, with my team and manager, we kept on requesting a copy of the contract and Open Mic couldn't send it until July 2022. To my surprise, a three page contract I signed came back as a 17 page contract with my initials and signature on each and every page. The initials and signature were forged on all those pages, we then requested to come and see the original copy of this 17 page contract and stories came up and all of a sudden they didn't have the original document. So out of fear, we decided to keep quiet because there were threats on my life and that of my management and team. Well, I just put my trust that God will answer my prayers one day, nothing trumps faith, God will be my soldier and protector. In the meantime we move and make music," the Limpopo born singer wrote.
On Saturday before the Metro FM music awards, Makhadzi wrote a statement where she claimed she has never received any cent from Open Mic from the streaming and downloads.
"In these three years, I dropped four albums. I have never received any cent from my sales. Some of my albums reached platinum and some gold and a lot of hit songs that reached platinum and gold. But I continue to work without complaining. Must I continue working where I am not happy? I served my contract, I don't want to work with them anymore," wrote Makhadzi. But in a turn of events, Open Mic has
made statements available showing that they paid Makhadzi close to R8 million and R300 000 towards her house deposit
When Open Mic boss Lionel Jamela was called for comment, he asked to be called after 90 minutes. Paige's Manager Lucky Mashazi confirmed the incident.
"Everything we have posted is true and we are taking Open Mic to court. They faked everything in that contract and we are saying enough is enough," he said. Meanwhile Godrich Gardee, the late Hilary Gardee's father has offered to help the musician in the her battle with Open Mic
