In an affidavit read at North Pretoria High by the lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda, made by accused number one and two Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, Senzo Meyiwa's baby mama Kelly Khumalo was named as the one who allegedly hired an inkabi to kill her soccer player lover. Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Ntuli are currently standing trial for the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper's murder. They were arrested in 2020, six years after the incident.
IT WAS KELLY
The court further heard that Khumalo had been trying to "get rid" of Meyiwa since 2013. There were also cellphone linkages between the singer and accused number three and five. "There is no reasonable explanation why she would be in contact with her boyfriend's killer. It is clear she hated him. She meant to kill him. A photo of money which was found on accused 3, Mncube's phone, was also found on Kelly's cellphone," read the statement from Gininda, who added that accused number one, Muzi Sibiya clearly implicated Khumalo as the person who ordered the hit on Senzo Meyiwa. "The cellphone which was robbed at Khumalo's home was picked up through cellphone towers near Vosloorus hostel and the planning of the murder took place at the hostel." Gininda said.
A HIT
On Tuesday, Gininda revealed that an affidavit from a deceased Simphiwe Buthelezi stated that Ntanzi was a known hitman in Kwa-Nongoma in KZN and he supplied illegal firearms to other hitmen. Ntanzi is said to have been supplying firearms even in Marikana, where a "powerful" union member was killed by him and another accused. A trial-within-a-trial is taking place to determine the admissibility of confession statements, pointing out and warning statements by the accused in the main trial.
