Sindi Dlathu set to join drama series but she didn't come cheap

Sindi Dlathu is set to join Isiphetho

Award-winning actress Sindi Dlathu is set to join etv's Isiphetho: Destiny, but she doesn't come cheap, as according to sources, she has become the most well-paid actress in Mzansi.

BIG SALARY

Various well-placed sources have told Zimoja that the production company, Black Brain Productions, entered into negotiations with the star three months ago and that she demanded a salary of not less than R200k for her services. "You must remember she comes from the River, where she was already the highest paid actress, so it's a no-brainer that she would want more on Isiphetho. She's aware of the fact that she will bring numbers to the show, and the show's executive producer, Mandla N, agreed to it," a source said. Another source said that she was not going to take anything less than that. "While the negotiations were private and it took long for the agreement to be reached, the channel also wanted her because they know that she is a big star who has the ability to attract more eyeballs to the show, which means revenue for the channel," another source revealed.

PLAYING A DEVIOUS CHARACTER

Sindi, whose career spans over two decades, is set to make waves with her new character, Zanemvula, who comes across as a good person but is cunning." A third source said: "We can't reveal too much about her character, but she will play a pivotal role on the show, and she is joined by other seasoned actors who hold their own. The reason she's the highest paid is because she knows that her name will bring viewers to the show." The show's executive producer, Mandla N, told Zimoja that he was honoured that Sindi was joining the show and that it was the first time that he worked with her. "I'm very honoured to be working with her; she joined the show at the end of last year and we've been shooting with her so far. I can't discuss people's contracts," he said.
