Mine worker who allegedly stabbed a colleague to death abandons bail

Sibanye-Stillwater employee abandons bail

Boinehelo Lefefa (43) who is accused of stabbing his co-worker to death and then taking selfies has abandoned his bail application. Lefefa, who faces a schedule 6 offence, appeared briefly at the Westonaria Magistrates' Court today.

INVESTIGATIONS AT AN ADVANCED STAGE

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the case was initially set down for bail application but the accused had a change of heart and decided to abandon bail. "The matter has been postponed to the 30th of January and hopefully by then, the state will have finalised its investigation, so that we can move to the next stage of disclosing the contents of the docket to the defence team for trial," Mjonondwane said, adding that investigations are at an advanced stage and should be concluded soon, however, they cannot divulge what's in there.

REVENGE ATTACK

Speculation is rife that the accused was angry that the deceased was reinstated at work after they were both suspended. He stabbed his colleague, ripped apart his intestines, and attempted to behead him before taking videos and selfies of himself sitting next to the deceased's corpse. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said officers were gathering evidence to establish the motive for the attack. "A case of murder has been opened for further investigation." Sibanye-Stillwater spokesperson, James Wellsted ,confirmed that the two men worked for the mining company. He said the crime was committed outside of their operations and therefore, that it had nothing to do with the company. 'It was a personal matter between two people who work there," Wellsted said.
