She came from a religious home where they strictly believed in Christianity and nothing else. However, according to a family member who does not wish to be revealed, Bulelwa 'Zahara' Mkutukana was in the process of undergoing sangoma initiation. The Loliwe singer died on 11 December 2023 after falling ill and being hospitalised for weeks.

THE CALLING

The source said, "She had already started the consultations and the process. She was practicing and getting revelations and dreams. But she could not tell her family about it because they are Christians, and it was in a way going against what they believed in as a family. She kept it to herself and only told a few people. Her husband knew about it because he supported her emotionally, financially and in every way."

TROUBLES

The family member said all the trials and tribulations that Zahara experienced in her life she believed were due to her delaying her calling. "She had a prophetic gift. She knew that troubles came in her life because she had delayed answering her calling," he said. "When she eventually accepted it and sought help, things started getting better and Mpho (Xaba) was there to support her." He added, "A lot will be revealed about what was happening to Bulelwa, she went through a lot and it was because of the family and the sisters."

LOSING EVERYTHING

Over the weekend, Zahara's sisters were evicted by police from her Little Falls home which now has a new owner after they could not afford it. "Yes, they were supposed to move out in September, but the new owner gave them time to try to raise money to buy it from her. They couldn't, so they were given until December and the eviction happened this weekend."

The family member confirmed that indeed Zahara's furniture was sold. "Yes, they sold most of the furniture to close friends. The rest of the stuff was left in the house because they could not sell it. So, they had to leave and go to the Eastern Cape. Bandezwa, the eldest sister is living in one of the backrooms with the parents." Zahara's sister Bandezwa told ZiMoja that they knew nothing about the calling. "Bulewa was gifted yes, her calling was music and nothing else. We don't know of any gift or sangoma calling. We don't believe in that."
