Five of the seven suspects arrested in connection with the murders of musician Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend celebrity chef Tebello 'Tibs' Motsoane will make their first court appearance this morning at the Durban Magistrates Court. The suspects were arrested between April last year and February this year with the seventh suspect having been arrested yesterday.
They face charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, among others. KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed the news of the arrest of two of the suspects by Eswatini authorities on Tuesday. Mkhwanazi said Forbes was the main target of the shooting and that Tibz was "at the wrong place at the wrong time". "The seven suspects played different roles during the operation. We have the coordinator, who is the master of everything. We have two shooters that we all saw on social media. We have two spotters. One of the spotters was inside the restaurant observing Mr Forbes and his friends, as well as the organiser of firearms and vehicles used as getaways," Mkhwanazi said. Mkhwanazi said the spotter initially followed AKA from King Shaka International Airport to the hotel and to the restaurant where he was shot dead. AKA was gunned down in Durban's Florida Road on 10 February 2023 as he was leaving the WISH restaurant and Tibz caught in the cross fire and died.
Two of the suspects who are also brothers Lindokuhle ( 29) and Siyabonga Ndimande (28) were arrested by Eswatini police over the weekend.
They are yet to be brought back to SA after they were found hiding in the neighbouring country. The Forbes family have not said anything since their son's alleged murderers arrest. In a short social media post earlier this morning, the rapper's mother Lynn Forbes wrote:" When you are angry. Be silent" AKA's father's father Tony Forbes, Police Minister Bheki Cele and Mkhwanazi are also in court this morning ahead of the proceedings.
