Senzo Meyiwa accused implicates Kelly Khumalo in confession statement

Kelly Khumalo has once again been implicated in Senzo Meyiwa's murder

Singer Kelly Khumalo allegedly paid R100 000 for former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa to be killed. This was revealed today at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria from two of the five accused's confession statements.

CONFESSION ADMISSABLE

Yesterday, Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng ruled in a trial-within-a-trial that accused number 2 Bongani Ntanzi and accused number 1 Muzi Sibiya's confession statements were admissible. Mokgoathleng said he carefully analysed all the evidence by the state and the defence led in court and were made "free and voluntarily in the sound and sober senses of the deponents, without any force or cohesion.' Ntanzi's confession statement was taken by Lieutenant Colonel Moholo Solomon Raphadu on 19 June 2020 after his arrest and made another one five days later before Magistrate Vivian Cronje in the presence of his attorney. Ntanzi's statement was read out in court by state witnesses Colonel Raphadu and another police officer Colonel Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho

NTANZI'S CONFESSION

In his confession, Ntanzi who was working at a mine, in mid-October 2014, said he received a call from a friend, who was with accused number 3 Mthokozisi Maphisa, who told him that there was an urgent job that needed to be done urgently and that they needed him as his assistant. He agreed to help and decided to travel to Johannesburg where he went to Vosloorus Men's Hostel. Ntanzi said he met Sibiya, Sifiso Zungu, another accused Fisokuhle Ntuli, Carlos Buthelezi and Maphisa at the hostel. "I was briefed that the person to be killed was Senzo Meyiwa and the hit was initiated by Kelly Khumalo who was going to make a payment for the job." In the confession, Ntanzi also revealed the role of each of the accused in the murder of Meyiwa. In the confession, he said Ntuli was positioned as the driver, Sibiya as a guard while Maphisa was stationed outside as backup.

R100 000 FOR SENZO'S LIFE

In Sibiya's statement, he said he received a call from his friends Marco and Makhimbi Buthelezi, his friends from at Vosloorus Men's Hostel, who later came to him saying there was a job to kill Meyiwa and that the hit was ordered by Kelly Khumalo. Sibiya was told by the two friends that they charged Kelly R100 000 for the job. "We consulted a traditional healer to establish if the job would go well and we paid him R50 and R5 000 later. Marco told the sangoma that Kelly wanted money from Senzo. On the day my friends picked me up, Kelly called Marco asking if they were coming, he said yes and briefed Sibiya who was calling after he was done with call,' Sibiya's confession read. Sibiya claimed in his confession that he was paid R30 000 when they returned to the hostel from the scene.

HOW SENZO WAS MURDERED?

According to the confession, they were at the Khumalo house between 7 and 8pm. "I went in with Mthobisi Mncube and others took their positions as discussed during the planning. When we entered the house, Ncube shouted, phansi, imali nama cellphones. I started collecting cellphones and cash that was in the container,' Ntanzi went on to say while he was busy taking the cellphones, Senzo jumped to Mncube and a struggle ensued and one shot went off and the second shot hit Senzo as the firearm was pointed at his chest. He said he ran out with the money and two cellphones and Mncube remained in the house and Maphisa ran into the house. "Within a short period, I was joined by Carlos, Sibiya and Maphisa. We then left for Vosloorus hostel. Carlos took the cash and the cellphone from me.' He said when they got to the hostel, he was paid R15 000 cash. He left with Ntuli and stayed at his place in Daveyton for a few days. He was later paid R30 000. The trial has been adjourned to Monday.
