He is the new cast member to join drama series Skeem Saam. Musician and actor Sicelo "Seekay" Buthelezi will play the role of Tobias "Toby" Maswahla.

NEW ROLE

This comes months of being unemployed and focusing on his music. Gomora wrapped its final season in October 2023, leaving many cast members, and crew unemployed. The show broke its viewership records just a month after it premiered in 2020 but due to M-Net "striving to keep abreast of changing consumer viewership preferences" the telenovela had to be discontinued. "We are committed to bringing the best content to our viewers, and, as such, we have to be responsive to their changing needs and preferences. This means that we have to bid farewell to beloved shows like Gomora, but we are excited to bring you new, fresh, and exciting content," the channel announced last year. During this time, Seekay released music.

NEW CHALLENGE

Seekay's new role as Toby tells the story of a university student with a mischievous streak who gets expelled and is forced to move to Turfloop after causing some serious trouble back in Johannesburg. He then tries to turn over a new leaf, starts attending Turfloop University, and even gets a part-time job. He attempts to stay away from trouble but seems to attract it. Seekay says he already feels at home. "Having joined the Skeem Saam family has been amazing. It's a different environment. I'm enjoying it." Seekay tells ZiMoja that he cannot wait for the new challenging role which is different to that of Teddy on Gomora. "There are similarities, but they are both very different and I cannot wait for people to see my versatility and how I adapt to each role I play."
