Drama seems to follow disgraced rugby player Elton Jantjies. Hardly a month after he was slapped with a four-year ban from rugby, his ex-girlfriend Ashleigh Ogle, has applied for a protection order against the troubled star.
SCARED FOR HER LIFE
ZiMoja can reveal that the former couple is currently involved in a legal battle. According to a source close to the former couple, Ashleigh got tired of being harassed and threatened by Jantjies. "He was threatening to kill her for messing up his reputation but we not sure which one. She decided to open a case and subsequently applied for protection order," adds the source. According to the source, his threats were getting serious to a point that she felt that she was being followed. "At this point he has nothing to lose- he lost his career and his wife took his kids abroad. Ashleigh couldn't just seat and entertain his threats," adds the source.
CONTROLLING AND INSECURE
The couple started dating in August last year after the former Springbok flyhalf separated from his Russian wife Iva Ristic over infidelity issues. In a statement, just after two months of dating, Ogle said she decided to end the relationship after she endured things no woman deserved. "I was deluded and chose to believe in him until numerous reliable sources brought information to my attention that could have implicated me. Going forward I will have no further contact with Mr Jantjies and wish him all the best with his future endeavours and pray he can respect my decision and leave me, friends and my family alone.' she said. A source who spoke to ZiMoja then said the relationship was toxic and that Jantjies was controlling and got her constantly followed. "He has an uncontrollable temper and he would scream at Ashleigh when things did not go his way," the source said.
TRIED TO SETTLE OUT OF COURT
ZiMoja has also learnt that after Ogle opened a case, Jantjies approached her wanting to settle out of court to avoid the media and drama. "He has been begging her to drop the charges, but she won't budge," adds the source. Jantjies is a well-known figure in South African rugby, having played for the national team, the Springboks, for over a decade. He is also a key player for the Lions, a Johannesburg-based rugby team that competes in the Super Rugby competition. He was recently banned from playing after he tested positive for doping. When contacted for comment, Jantjies said, "No bro, I don't talk to the media" before he deleted the message and blocked the Zimoja reporter. Ogle refused to comment on the matter.
