Controversial insurance serial killer Rosemary Ndlovu (45) has been charged internally by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) after being caught with a cellphone in prison. The former police officer turned killer has been charged with contravening the Correctional Services Act.
BREAKING THE LAW INSIDE PRISON
DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said on Sunday that the department laid charges against Ndlovu after being found with a cellphone. "Inmates found in possession of cellphones are charged in terms of section 23(1) of the Correctional Services Act. They are then reprimanded accordingly, a process which may involve a withdrawal of privileges for a specified period, downgrade and other punitive measures,' Nxumalo said. He added that illegal activities and deviant behaviour by inmates have no place in their correctional facilities. "DCS is working towards achieving contraband-free centres, hence different measures are being employed by means of removing all illegal items in our centres,' he said.
BACK IN COURT THIS WEEK
Ndlovu was arrested in 2018 after it was discovered she orchestrated the death of five of her relatives and her lover to benefit from their funeral insurance policies. She was sentenced to six life terms in 2021 for the murders. Ndlovu and her former colleague Nomsa Mudau will appear in court on Wednesday for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. The pair allegedly conspired to murder Mudau's husband Justice Mudau in 2018. Mudau was a police sergeant in the Norkem Park police station and Ndlovu was stationed at the Tembisa police station as a sergeant. Mudau has since been fired from the SAPS. In another case Ndlovu is facing, it is alleged that she conspired to kill investigating officer Sergeant Benneth Mabunda who investigated the murder for which she was later sentenced to six life terms, as well as her former boss at the Tembisa police station, Colonel Nthipe Boloka. Mabunda who worked tirelessly in ending Ndlovu's killing spree was honoured earlier this year during the SAPS National Awards for his thorough investigation which led to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the ex-cop.
