Rosemary Ndlovu back in court for conspiring to kill friend’s husband

Convicted serial killer Rosemary Ndlovu and her co-accused, Nomsa Mudau, appeared in the Kempton Park Regional Court today for the continuation of their trial. Both accused pleaded not guilty to conspiring to kill Mudau’s ex-husband Justice Mudau.

HITMEN OFFERED R150 000

Justice Mudau took to the witness stand and faced cross-examination by his ex-wife’s defence Advocate M Malotane. Mudau told the court that his ex-wife put a bounty on his head but fortunately for him, the hitmen alerted him. He told the court that he was approached by two men, one of them was speaking Venda. "On the 25th of February 2018 I was approached by a Venda-speaking man and what he told me left me shaken. I was afraid of what they told me but not of my wife. I went to the man’s car and he introduced himself as MJ another man informed me that my wife told them that I was abusing her, but I told them that I never did that and was a faithful husband to my wife. They told me that she hired them to kill me," He added that he asked the hitmen how much they were offered for his life. "She promised to pay them R80000 after I was dead because paying them prior wasn’t going to happen since she had been previously scammed by others who never got the job done. She also offered them R70 000 after they had put my head down and this money would come from a claimed life cover policy," said Mudau.

FLEEING TEMBISA

Mudau said after his meeting with the alleged hitmen he was frustrated and reluctant to go back to his house. "After the visit from the two alleged hitmen, I went to my neighbours house to compose myself because I was trembling. Then I came up with a plan to flee because now I discovered there was a plot against me. So I told my wife that I received a call from Limpopo that my child was sick and I had to rush home. This was the perfect excuse otherwise she would have been suspicious had I given her another story," said Mudau. He added that only when he reached his village, then called both his and his wife’s family and told them about an attempt on his life. "After two or three days I came back but drove straight to the police station to open a case of conspiracy to commit murder against my wife. She was arrested but I wasn’t there because I had gone on a fishing trip in Bronkhorspruit. Upon her release, she asked for an apology. She made plans to meet with our uncles in Limpopo where she confessed. She pleaded for forgiveness but I rejected her apology," said Mudau.

"I NEVER LAID MY HANDS ON HER"

Asked about the various assault cases opened against him, Mudau insisted that he never laid his hands on his ex-wife. "I have never physically abused my wife, I still stand by that and that’s why she ended up withdrawing all the charges because she had no leg to stand on. I understand a protection order was filed against me in May 2014 and apparently I violated it on 6 August of the same year, however, I knew nothing about that and I don’t know what I did." Accused number two’s defence emphasised that his client never had life policies but a funeral cover with Assupol and an investment policy with Assupol worth R20 000. "She had a R5 000 funeral cover with Avbob and a R12 000 policy with Old Mutual. My instruction is that you were not the beneficiary," said Malotane. Mudau responded: "I won’t disagree because I don’t remember whether, among her policies, there were life covers. I hear what you are saying. There is nothing I can say. People choose their beneficiaries," Mudau replied. The matter will resume on Thursday as Mudau’s cross-examination was not completed.
