Ringo bids politics goodbye

Ringo Madlingozi has turned back to his first love, music, as he takes a break from politics

Afro-pop musician, Ringo Madlingozi is back in the music industry with a bang. The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Member of Parliament did not make it back to Parliament in the 7th administration. The EFF took a knock during the May 29 elections. Many of their members couldn't return to Parliament as a result. 


HE WILL DIE A FIGHTER


Ringo, of Ndiyagodola fame, took to X (Twitter) to tell his fans he is no longer active in politics, even though he will die a fighter (EFF). "I'm no longer active in politics. I will always love my brothers and sisters. My purpose to heal through music will remain. I will die a fighter," he wrote. After signing a deal with Sony Music Entertainment in September last year to have the last 13 of his albums made available on streaming platforms, Ringo had to fend off claims that he was quitting the EFF. He said on his X account about the media reports. "Your journalism is fraud. Your lies hide behind your 'reliable sources'. Your wishes can never be mine. What you must write is the re-emergence of my catalogue on all digital platforms for the first time on 15 September. I'm EFF South Africa through and through..."


FOCUSING ON MUSIC


The former National Assembly member is expected to release his new music after being preoccupied with politics. The singer and songwriter was one of the artists performing at EFF events. Other prominent celebrities who joined the EFF are former Malaika lead singer, Tshedi Mholo, Eugene Mthethwa, who is one of the founding members of kwaito group Trompies. Called for comment, he confirmed to ZiMoja that he would no longer be active in politics. "I said what I said. I won't be active in politics, which part did you not understand?" he asked before hanging up
