What life was like for rapper Pitch Black Afro in prison

Rapper Pitch Black Afro had adjusted to life in prison before he was granted a special remission of sentence last week. He was sentenced for culpable homicide after his wife Catherine Modisane was found to have died of blunt force trauma in 2018 at a BnB in Johannesburg. Real name Thulani Ngcobo, he was sentenced to 10-years but five years were suspended and he only spent three years behind bars. Pitch Black Afro of Ntofotnofo fame, became the star of the show two weeks ago when he performed during a drug addiction and GBV concert at Leeuwkop Prison.


HE GAVE TALKS 


A source tells Zimoja how Pitch Black Afro found a new lease on life behind bars. "He was very active at the event and in high spirits and keeping positive energy and remaining optimistic while he was inside prison," said the source. Former inmate turned activist Spijo Makhanvas, who welcomed the rapper in prison, says he is proud of Pitch Black because of his ability to turn a bad situation turn it into a positive one. "He gets along with many people. He is satisfied whenever he is with a group of inmates he teaches rap and kwaito," he said.


GRANTED SPECIAL REMISSION OF SENTENCE


The spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed that Pitch Black was released from prison on August 18th, 2023. He said the musician benefited from the special remission of sentence. �"Culpable homicide is among the offences covered by the special remission of sentences. There are no conditions to his release as his sentence has expired,” Nxulamo said.
