With the historic Netball World Cup 2023 closing the curtains today, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to attend the final match in Cape Town today.
ENGLAND IN THE FINAL
England has qualified for the final after defeating New Zealand on Saturday and waiting for winners between Australia and Jamaica in the second semifinals. South Africa is already out after failing to reach the semifinals in their Pool G. However, Ramaphosa will deliver his speech in the closing ceremony. "President Ramaphosa will attend and deliver brief remarks at the closing ceremony of the competition in Cape Town on Sunday, 06 August 2023," the Presidency said in a statement.
HISTORY MADE
South Africa is the first African host of this global tournament which has been staged at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Ramaphosa has commended South Africa’s national team, the Spar Proteas, on their gallant progress through the pool stage of the tournament. "As the host nation, we have been honoured to welcome players and supporters from all over the globe and we look forward to an exciting final and the successful conclusion of the tournament. Of course, we encourage our guests to extend their stay and be inspired in new ways by the many amazing experiences South Africa has to offer," Ramaphosa said in a statement. Four of Africa’s top teams participated in the tournament, which ran from July 28 and all games were played in one city. South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, and Zimbabwe were the only African teams to participate in the tournament.
