As political parties are fighting tooth and nail to win the 2024 general elections, they are also on a drive to woo celebrities who may help them get new voters. This week ActionSA founder, Herman Mashaba welcomed radio veteran Vusi Letsoalo to his political party.

CELEBS JOINING POLITICAL PARTIES

In recent months, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), was joined by veteran Kwaito artist Eugene Mthethwa. He was recently sworn in as a new Member of Parliament. Since the formation of the EFF almost 10 years ago, the political party has been home to artists like Afro Pop musician Ringo Madlingozi and former Yizo Yizo and Generations actor, Fana Mokoena. Meanwhile, the well-travelled Letsoalo, who has worked for Metro FM, P4 Radio, and Gagasi FM in Durban, has also been behind the microphone at Vuma 103 FM. Letsoalo is also a businessman, like his new boss, Herman Mashaba. He owns The Letsoalo Broadcasting Academy.

HERMAN MASHABA IS PLEASED TO WELCOME LETSOALO

Speaking to ZiMoja, the party leader Herman Mashaba says it gives him joy when people of influence join his party voluntarily. " I know Vusi as a broadcaster and always admired his work and what he has done for the radio in this country," Asked if he was poached, Letsoalo said: "Not at all, I was made aware by our provincial chairperson Zwakele Mncwango that he has joined our party as a member, hence I decided to meet him officially this week (on Monday) to welcome him," he says. He says he was pleased and honoured for someone of his stature to join as a member who is willing to get hands dirty on the ground without exceptions for high positions. "I like the fact that he joined without announcing, it means we are doing something good, I would like to pledge others to do the same in order to save our county which is in a blink of collapse, our country is at risk," he adds.
