Production company fails to pay staff their December salaries

SeMamo Productions co-owner Japhta Mohlabane says they have communicated payment delays to their staff

They have over 10 in-house staff members in their office working on various productions. The rest are freelancers, cameramen, videographers, directors, and the like. SeMamo Productions, owned by Japhta Mohlabane and Themba Masango are once again in hot water for failing to pay staff on time.

THE BUSINESS

The company is responsible for shows; Forever Thina, Kings Of Maskandi, This Body Works For Me, Wang'Kolota, and Cheeky Palatte. SeMamo Productions previously made headlines after a dispute with Papa Penny who complained about their ill treatment and money issues. "They were not paying my family up until season three. My mother died on season four without having been paid. She died without receiving her money from that production company," Papa Penny told ZiMoja. "They even treated us badly. There was a time we flew to Mauritius and they put us up at a dumping place and not the beautiful side of Mauritius. They flew me in first class and Mama Nomi in economy class. I had to pay for her to be in first class on the way back. I got sponsors for the show, and they tried to speak badly of me to the sponsors," Papa Penny added. "I am not a greedy person, I don't do this just for money, but they are making it seem as though I am greedy."

NO DECEMBER PAYMENTS

Staff members are complaining that the company failed to pay them their December salaries and blaming late payments on the channel. Several staff members have complained to ZiMoja saying they have not been paid for the TV show 'Wangkolota' "The irony in that," said one staff member. "Japhta has not paid us our money once again. He paid on time in season one. This time he has messed up. He is not giving us an explanation as to why he has not paid our money. He is blaming it on the channel saying they have not paid him and that is not true," the source said. "He used the money to go and shoot Kings Of Maskandi in Durban and he is living his best life." The source says they have not been able to enjoy the holiday season with their families. "As it stands, we can't buy kids and family members clothes. We don't have money for food, and we claim to be working. Do you know how demeaning that is especially around the holiday season,"

THIS BODY WORKS FOR ME

A cast member on the reality show This Body Works For Me says Japhta has also not paid them their agreed amounts. "We haven't been paid. I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but it hurts that we have not been paid, especially in the holiday season," she says. "They just told us that payments have been delayed due to the channel blah blah blah." Another cast member says her payment only came this morning.

MOSHE NDIKI'S REALITY SHOW

The production company is also responsible for Moshe Ndiki's new reality show titled Moshe Ndiki's Journey to Fatherhood. Another mole says they have also not finished payments. "Do you understand that they are behind on a lot of payments," Some staff members at the office also say that he has not paid them," the source says. "What kind of a business is he running? This is unfair because he recently hosted two parties for his child and his dad. This is truly unfair," the source adds. "We have been loyal and very understanding but there are too many things happening in that company. We don't get paid for overtime. There were times when we didn't get food while working at night overtime and sometimes, they would not even get us water. But this is now enough,". Japhta denies not communicating payment delays. "What I can say for now, is these allegations are not true. We have communicated the payment delay with all parties concerned as we've not received two months' payment from our client.'
