Award-winning producer Prince Kaybee has been served with a final letter of demand to pay millions in unpaid taxes to the SA Revenue Service (SARS) or lose his assets.

TWO MILLION RAND TAX BILL

According to documents seen by ZiMoja, the Gugulethu hitmaker, real name Kabelo Motsamai (35), owes the tax man over R2 million which spans over a year. He has been given 10 business days from receiving the letter of demand to either apply or pay in installments if he is unable to pay the full amount.

DEFAULTED

If the producer fails to make the full payment or make an arrangement, it may result in SARS appointing a third party to settle the debt or having his assets repossessed by the sheriff of the court and sold. "In addition to the above remedies and in anticipation that SARS may appoint a third party as set out above, you may within five business days from the date of receipt of his letter of demand apply to SARS for the following," the letter reads. "If you are a natural person, you may apply for a reduction of the amount to be paid to SARS based on your and your dependent's basic living expenses. If you are a non-natural person, you may apply for a reduction of the amount to be paid to SARS based on serious financial hardship."

BUSINESS

In 2021, Prince Kaybee said he had bought some trucks and needed to create employment for three potential drivers. Although he had not released music in a few years, he also announced he had left major labels, was now an independent artist, and was no longer making music for business. Two artists have recently called out Prince Kaybee for alleged song theft. Gqom star and Gobisiqolo hitmaker Bhizer, real name Sibonelo Dimba, and Idols SA contestant Botlhale Phora both accused Prince Kaybee of stealing the idea of songs they sent to him in 2021. The producer has not responded to calls or messages.
