Two suspected cop killers were shot and killed during a shootout with the police yesterday. The suspects were allegedly involved in a jewellery robbery which took place on Sunday 19 November at the Pavillion Mall in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, where a police officer Sergeant Riyahd Adams was also shot dead.
The suspects allegedly stormed two jewellery shops at Pavallion Mall in Durban and assaulted two women during the robbery, with one being pregnant. Responding go to the robbery, Sergeant Adams went to the scene and he was shot dead while the robbers made it away with jewellery. The two alleged robbers were found in the crime den of KwaMashu's C section, north of Durban, where a shootout broke out and the suspects were shot and killed.
KZN Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo confirmed the incident. "We can confirm that two suspects were fatally wounded during the Hawks investigation about a police murder and business robbery which happened on Sunday 19 November 2023. Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested and charged a 41-year-old suspect for both cases," Mhlongo said. He added that during their investigation, the arrested suspect led the police to KwaMashu to point out his accomplice and during the process a shoot-out occurred. "As a result, both suspects died at the scene," said Mhlongo, adding that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the matter into the business robbery and police murder continues.
