The police in Gauteng have arrested one of their own after he allegedly raped his girlfriend. The 48-year-old police officer who is a member of the flying squad was arrested on Wednesday by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).
UNANNOUNCED VISIT
Ipid spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, said the victim explained that the incident happened on the evening of May 26. The officer allegedly went to his girlfriend's place unannounced, and she was sleeping at the time. "The girlfriend was sleeping with her child when she heard a noise outside and jumped out of her bed to check what was happening," said Shuping.
SHE DIDN'T WANT HIM THERE
Shuping said when the victim discovered that it was her boyfriend, she tried to find out what he is doing outside her house at that time. "She asked him to leave because she wanted to sleep but he refused. He followed her into the house and raped her," said Shuping. Shuping said the incident was brought to Ipid's attention for investigation and the officer was arrested on Wednesday. Shuping said the officer faces a rape charge and will be appearing in the Randburg Magistrates Court soon.
ANOTHER COP ARRESTED FOR RAPE
In April, a Tshwane Metro cop was charged with rape after he allegedly raped a woman who had gone to him for help. The 30-year-old complainant had travelled from Mpumalanga to meet her boyfriend in Pretoria but couldn't get hold of him as his phone was off. She decided to get directions to the nearest police station, and she was directed to the offices of the Tshwane Metro Police Department where she met the accused and another police officer on her way. Shuping said the suspect told the victim that she wasn't going to get help at their offices in the evening and in turn offered her accommodation. "It is alleged that the suspect then raped the complainant. She escaped from the house and sought help from a security officer who assisted her by calling the police," said Shuping. The suspect's arrest and he was granted bail of R1000.
