Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for four suspects following the rape of a 15-year-old girl at Tshakhuma township, next to Tshiemuemu Secondary School on Saturday afternoon. The victim allegedly boarded a minibus taxi unsuspecting that she might be in danger from the men inside.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said information from the victim?s mother states that she was sent to buy medication for her ailing mother at the Tshakuma Market Pharmacy.
"After a few hours, her mother called the victim?s cellphone, but she did not respond. Shortly after making the calls, the mother suddenly, received a phone call from a local pastor who told her that he had found her daughter walking alone and crying on the street,"said Ledwaba adding that investigations indicated that the victim bought medication as intended and boarded a minibus taxi to go home which had four men inside.
"The driver deliberately took the wrong direction until he stopped next to Tshiemuemu Secondary School. The four men allegedly dragged the victim to the nearby bushes where she was raped by one of the suspects. The victim was later released and the suspects drove off afterwards."
Ledwaba said a manhunt has since been launched for their arrest. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned the incident and further tasked the team of Investigators to trace and arrest the suspects to face the full might of the law.
