Just over a week after budding musician Csana was allegedly attacked by fans who accused her of mimicking Zahara, she announced that she has found a new musical home after signing with Kwathole Conexion. Poet and singer Jessica Mbangeni used the announcement as an opportunity to throw jabs at fellow musician, Zahara. She advised Csana, real name, Nonguquko Mlaza not to be like the Loliwe hitmaker and protect and take her music seriously.
ZiMoja reported last week that Csana said she has been unable to make a breakthrough in the music industry as she is accused of singing like Zahara, she announced her new record deal over the weekend. "I am happy to announce that I am now signed and partnered with @KwatholeConexion. To be an independent artist takes a lot. "I am glad that I found a home that will give me wings to fly. Kwangathi ndingavusa (I wish my mother was alive to witness, a lot is yet to come) umama,Kuningi okuzayo ndicela nithi hurray! "@KwatholeConexion are not strangers to me. They were part of my first album marketing and PR. I am glad to be fully under their management as a girl from the villages in a big city. "I am ready to take my brand to the world with the help of Kwathole Conexion. Sisazosebenza. Thanduxolo Jindela makusetyenzwe ke ndiready." she said.
After the announcement, Jessica, who rose to prominence when Soweto Gospel Choir was formed in 2002, says she wanted to look out for Csana, and that she was happy that she was protecting her music career. She advised Csana not to repeat the same mistakes Zahara made when she became a household name. She said: "You have worked hard in establishing yourself nationwide and internationally. Take pride in what you are doing, partnership means more responsibility because the strategy is different and Kwathole Conextion is a professional-driven company that will take you to places," Jessica concluded her statement by saying: "Please own your publishing and let them administer it only, sincede rural girl ungafani no country girl," The country girl jab is indirectly aimed at Zahara.
The multi-award-winning musician Zahara claimed she was owed millions of Rands by her former record label, TS Records. Zahara made allegations against the record label executives TK Nciza and DJ Sbu Leope, claiming that she was underpaid for her performances, the sale of her records, and royalties for when her songs were played. She made claims about her monster 2011 debut album Loliwe, which she said sold more than 500 000 copies.
